Active Learning Approach - Version 1
MAIN TOPIC 1 - CONCEPT AND THEORIES
Introduction
In this main topic: Concepts and Theories, we will explore three sub-topics on "John Dewey: Learning by Doing; Edgar Dale: Cone of Experiences and Benjamin Bloom: Bloom’s Taxonomy". They are the basic concepts and theories of the approach, tending to enhance students to be active learners who do and think about what they are learning and for what purposes. The activities or experiences will be designed for them in order to gain knowledge in this way. Learning by Doing, also known as Experiential Learning, focuses on the learning process by practices. The "Cone of Experiences", also known as Cone of Learning, is the model that incorporates various theories related to both learning process and instructional design. It’s a tool to help teacher make decision about materials, activities, and teaching process to be applied in class. Bloom’s Taxonomy promote the higher order thinking skills of learners, their ability to think about what they are studying from the first stage of knowing to the creative one: remember, understand, apply, analyze, evaluate, and create. All these background concepts and theories are supportive for the strategies and techniques to be used in actively constructing learners' skills and knowledge.
